Madhurendra Kumar (born 5 September 1994) is an Indian sand artist, sculptor and leaf artist from Bihar, India. He is internationally recognized for creating large-scale sand sculptures that address social, environmental, cultural and humanitarian themes. Early life and education
Madhurendra Kumar was born on 5 September 1994 in Barwakala village in East Champaran district, Bihar. He was born into a farming family. His father, Shiv Kumar Sah, worked as a farmer while his mother Gena Devi managed the household.
According to reports, Madhurendra experienced significant financial hardships during his childhood. To support his family, he engaged in various forms of manual labor while continuing his education and nurturing his passion for art.
He completed his early education in Bihar before pursuing higher education at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, where he earned Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees specializing in sculpture.
Career
Madhurendra Kumar developed an interest in sand sculpture during childhood while spending time near the banks of the Aruna River, a tributary of the Bagmati River. Due to limited access to conventional art materials, he began experimenting with naturally available sand, which gradually became his primary artistic medium.
