Sujay Rao Mandavilli (born 18 November 1969) is an Indian anthropologist, interdisciplinary researcher, and founder of the Institute for the Study of the Globalisation of Science (ISGOS), also known as the Globalisation of Science Trust. His scholarship focuses on globalization of science, sociology of knowledge, identity frameworks, and twenty-first century historiography.
He has written extensively on issues concerning scientific reform, pedagogy modernization, and cross-cultural knowledge systems.
Early life and schooling
Mandavilli was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He spent his early years in Coimbatore and Chennai. During 1978–79, he lived in West Germany, where he attended a German-medium institution.
He studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya and later at Vanavani Matriculation Higher Secondary School located within the campus of IIT Madras. He completed his B.Com degree in 1990.
Academic qualifications
Mandavilli earned a Master of Arts in Anthropology from Indira Gandhi National Open University in 2020, specializing in ethnography and environmental anthropology. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in commerce (M.Com) and business administration (PGDBA).
He completed the CA Inter qualification under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and obtained several professional certifications, including ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Master Black Belt, ITIL, and CEH.
Corporate and consulting career
Mandavilli began his career in auditing before moving into information technology in 1998. He worked in software development and systems implementation, including assignments in Bhutan and Southeast Asia.
From 2005 to 2011, he was associated with IBM, serving as Business Controls Head for the India GBS-GD division. His responsibilities involved governance frameworks, risk assessment, and compliance oversight.
Post-2011, he worked independently as a Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) consultant, advising organizations in India and internationally.
