Satish Raj Goravigere (born 21 February 1984) is an Indian journalist and media innovator based in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He is the visionary behind Kannada News Today, a major Kannada-language digital media outlet, and the founder of Timesnib, an English-language platform recognized for its objective, tech-enabled news delivery.

Early life and education

Born in Goravigere village near Bengaluru, Satish Raj’s birth name is Sathish Kumar G.R. He pursued a Master’s degree in Mass Communication, equipping himself for a media-centric career. His father, Rajanna, a retired railway worker and free yoga teacher, and his mother, Bhagyalakshmi, a homemaker, supported his path into journalism. He has two siblings—Shubhakar (a businessman) and Veena. Satish is married to Asha, and they have two children: Yashas and Harshitha.

Professional journey

He began his professional career as a field reporter in a local newspaper. In 2019, he founded Kannada News Today to create a space for independent regional journalism. The platform rapidly gained traction for its authentic, hyper-local coverage.

Expanding his mission, he launched Timesnib in 2025 to serve a wider audience with verified English-language news, reflecting his dual commitment to regional identity and global relevance.

Media education and community work

A firm believer in empowering future storytellers, Satish Raj offers free digital journalism training, especially for youth in rural Karnataka. His initiatives have helped bridge the urban-rural media gap and trained hundreds of students.

He instituted the Sadhana Hyper-Local Journalism Awards to honor reporters who shed light on community-driven stories often overlooked by mainstream platforms.

Technology and innovation

Blending media with modern tech, Satish pioneered the use of AI-powered news anchors in the Kannada media landscape. This tech-forward step marked a new chapter for vernacular journalism in India.

Publications

He authored Writing Nib: The Untold Journey of Journalism, an inspirational book for students and early-career journalists. It offers real-world insights from his reporting career and addresses modern challenges in Indian journalism.
